Since the Ojai Festivals began in 1947 they have amassed a heritage of world premiers from composers such as Stravinsky, Copland, Foss, Messiaen, Carter, Berio, Boulez and Kirchner. The Ojai Festival takes place in June every year in the rustic setting of Libbey Park in Ojai, California, 90 miles north of Los Angeles. The Festival is known as the place where new works by living composers have debuts conducted by renowned conductors and performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In 1999, our office began a design for a new band shell and a master plan for renovating the audience area, including extensive lawn seating.

The Ojai Festivals project includes a new band shell with supporting spaces including dressing rooms, practice rooms, and loading areas for musical instruments, and the landscape design for the audience seating area. The band shell was designed with Nagata Acoustics who have an international reputation for innovation in the design of acoustic spaces. Nagata’s credits include the LA Philharmonic’s new home, Disney Hall, in Los Angeles.
